The Indio Police Department has benefited from the use of police service dogs for many years.

There are currently three active K-9 teams and are led by Lieutenant Christopher Shannon and Sergeant Rene Mendez. Officers Schwartz and Moran along with their German Shepard partners Argos and Hoki are trained for patrol duty, narcotics detection, and firearms detection.

The unit is often called upon to help recover discarded or hidden evidence, locate suspects, missing children or adults, and perform demonstrations for the public at schools, hospitals, and other community events.

The Indio Police Department is grateful to the community which has enabled purchase and training of all police service dogs through the use of private donations.
