The rules governing how authorized users may use the ALPR system. Indio Police policy limits use to law enforcement purposes and prohibits uses such as personal use or enforcement based solely on protected characteristics.
ALPR
Automated License Plate Reader
Data Retention
The amount of time ALPR data is stored before it is automatically deleted according to vendor protocols. Our retention is for a period of 30 days.
Hotlist
A list of license plates associated with vehicles of interest, such as stolen vehicles, AMBER/Silver/Feather/Ebony Alerts, and homicide suspects. These entries are made by personnel from various law enforcement agencies.
Hotlist Hit
An alert is generated when a detected license plate is captured by an ALPR. Our policy requires that every hit must be verified by a person before any enforcement action is taken.
Human Verification
The process of an authorized user reviewing a system-generated alert to confirm it is accurate before initiating any law enforcement action.
Number of Searches
The number of independent searches IPD personnel make in the ALPR system related to law enforcement activities.
Plate Read (Vehicle Detection)
A single instance where an ALPR camera captures a license plate, along with the time, date, location, and images of the vehicle. It is a detection event, not evidence of criminal activity or investigation.
Powered by Flock
Our ALPR vendor generates aggregate data reports with the counts of our searches, number of vehicles detected, and other non-personally identifiable information for our broad tracking purposes of the efficacy of the system.
Retroactive Search
A search is performed after an incident has occurred to identify vehicles that were detected near a location during a specified time. It is not a live tracking tool.
Search Session
A user interaction with the ALPR system to query stored detections using search criteria such as location, time, or license plate. The user is required to enter a case number and reason for every system query.
Sharing Network
The group of law enforcement agencies that have been granted permission to access Indio Police Department ALPR data under established agreements, department policy, and compliance under the California Values Act.
Unique Vehicles Detected
The number of unique license plates and vehicles captured by our ALPR's. Each vehicle is detected once for the purposes of this data metric.
