Smart Policing Link

In 2010 the Indio Police Department was awarded a competitive grant from the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) to help reduce residential and commercial burglary rates in Indio. Furthermore, SPI research findings show a link between truancy rates and burglary rates in Indio. As a result, the Indio Police Department has initiated a series of burglary prevention activities targeting predicted burglary “hot spots” in the city. These placed-based policing efforts have included enhanced partnership efforts, deployment of a burglary plus truancy prevention task force and community outreach.

The Parent Project®

The Indio Police Department is fully dedicated to safeguarding education and improving the quality of life for our youth. In furtherance of our commitment to the community, The Indio Police Department will be offering Parent Project® classes. The Parent Project® is a nationally renowned parent-training program designed specifically for parents raising difficult or out-of-control adolescent children.  The primary goals of the Parent Project® are to reduce family conflict, reduce juvenile crime, reduce recidivism and improve both school performance and attendance. As SPI findings have shown, in many instances juveniles with poor school attendance also engaged in more serious forms of criminal activities, such as burglary. The Indio Police Department is excited to now provide City of Indio parents with the skills and strategies needed to deal with difficult out of control children.
