If you’ve ever asked yourself — What can I do to improve my community? — this is the place to find the answers. Indio Police needs you! We are currently looking for people with civic pride and responsibility, who are willing to give of themselves to better their community. There are a variety of challenging and dynamic programs at IPD in which you can help: From volunteering within your community as a civilian volunteer in the Youth Explorers program to serving in the CHIPS program.  Volunteer positions are also available for Reserve Police Officers.  Regardless of your interests or talents, there is a place for you.  In addition to our civilian volunteer programs, IPD sworn officers are involved in several community outreach and improvement efforts, such as Indio PD's "Adopt a School" program and our full-time Community Liaison Officer. C.itizens H.elping I.ndio P.olice (CHIP'S)

 
 
 

The Indio Citizens on Patrol Program is a program in which community volunteers become an extension of the police department. Volunteers and police work together to prevent and curb crime in a specific area.Our C.H.I.P. unit currently has twenty members who are dedicated to helping their community.

Screened volunteers communicate with IPD via radio and cell phone. These volunteers patrol critical areas identified by police, to observe and report suspicious activity. Training is provided through the Indio Police Department. Volunteers will not intervene in any potentially dangerous situations they observe.

RESERVE POLICE OFFICER (VOLUNTEER OFFICER)

 

The Indio Police Reserve Corps is comprised of community members who volunteer their time to fulfill many of the roles handled by full-time sworn police officers. Reserve officers obtain the same training as regular officers and work alongside them in every aspect of department operations. INDIO EXPLORERS

( POLICE CADET PROGRAM )

 
 
 
 

The Cadet Post consists of nineteen highly motivated and dedicated young adults who have an interest in people and in assisting not only their community, but the Law Enforcement community as well.

The purpose of the program is to provide specialized training that prepares young people for a career in law enforcement and life-long community service.

The Indio Police Department Cadet Program has three principle goals:

  • To recruit young men and women to qualify for future careers in law enforcement, offering a positive relationship between police and the youth of our community

  • To provide a forum in which young people can engage in non-hazardous community service thereby relieving police officers for other assignments

  • To provide solid training toward the development of better citizens and better physical fitness for all who participate.

ADOPT A SCHOOL PROGRAM

   
 

Our "Adopt a School" program allows officers to volunteer to adopt a particular Indio school to enhance relations between the police and schools. The Adopt a School Project was established as a tool to enhance relations between the schools within the City of Indio and the Police Department. The primary focus is for uniformed officers to interact with students and build relationships of trust. A secondary goal is to establish relationships with the faculty to enhance the officers ability to present crime prevention and safety education type presentations in classes and assemblies.

CHAPLAIN PROGRAM

   
 

The purpose of our Chaplian program is to provide spiritual guidance, emotional support, counseling, and assistance to all employees of the department, their families and the community. Investigator Wayne Hoy is currently our department Chaplain and also works in background investigations.

Indio Youth Task Force purpose is to organize, plan, and implement youth events. The mission of the IYTF is to foster extensive networking with several county agencies, youth organizations and service providers for the purpose of Juvenile Intervention and Education.

POLICE DEPARTMENT VOLUNTEERS

   
 

Do you have computer, clerical, office or other specialized skills ? The Indio Police department recognizes the need to utilize our community's most valuable resource- The citizen volunteer! There are numerous areas where citizens can contribute their time and energy towards a better police department. Volunteers perform a variety of valuable tasks involving office work in virtually every division, including: Records, Investigations, data entry, training, crime prevention, public relations, and evidence. IPD provides its volunteers with all necessary training.

COMMUNITY LIAISON OFFICER

 

The Public Relations officer has liaison duties associated with the Indio Youth Task Force Executive Board for purposes of assisting with organizing, planning, and implementing youth events. Indio Neighborhood Watchs are organized to be the extra eyes and ears of the police. Watch participants learn how & when to report suspicious activities and persons to the police as soon as they are observed.
Neighborhood Watch is a great way citizens can work together to prevent crime.
