Area Command Program
The Area Commander Program is responsible for those areas which directly influence the quality of life for the residents and businesses in Indio. In addition to enforcing the laws of our society, the Police Department believes it is equally important to maintain and develop positive relationships with all members of the community. The Area Commander Program accomplishes this.
The City of Indio is divided up into four specific policing districts. Two Field Services Lieutenants are responsible for crime control and public safety issues in their assigned districts.
The Indio Police Department’s Area Commander Program is working to provide a safe and secure environment for the community. The utilization of proactive community based policing concepts, problem solving principles, technology, and effective crime fighting strategies are just part of the programs overall plan.
The Area Command Program utilizes the " Compstat" policing strategy. Compstat (short for Computer Statistics or Comparative Statistics) is a multi-layered dynamic approach to crime reduction, quality of life improvement, and personnel and resource management. Compstat consists of four major components and/or principles; accurate and timely information at all levels, the most effective tactics for specific problems, rapid, focused deployment of resources to implement those tactics, and relentless follow up and assessment.
We also encourage you to use the technology related resources found on the Department's website to include; Coplogic (Online Reporting), Citizen Observer (Web-based E-mail Alert System), and Crime Stoppers (Online Tip Site)
